Walthwaite, Cumbria. 58 tunes

One or two tunes were composed by his teacher, William Irwin, which puts it later in the 19th century, but the repertoire has an old-fashioned feel to it apart from one polka and a schottische.

According to my informant Hugh Taylor, Henry Stables was (briefly) :-

“A pupil of W.Irwin. He died in1906.

Mannex Directory 1849 – shoemaker, in Great and Little Langdale.

Mannex & Co Directory 1851 – Ditto.

Post Office Directory for Durham plus N’umberland, Cumberland, Westmoreland 1873 – Farmer, Low Hacket, Little Langdale

Westmoreland Gazette Directory 1930 – Elizabeth Stables, Chapel Stile – only reference in the area to a Stables.”
