Lawrence Leadley (1827-97) was born in Thirsk, North Yorkshire,
and became an architect in Bradford, West Yorkshire. He was the
subject of the book "The
Fiddler of Helperby", Dragonfly Music, 1994, wherein can
be found many of his tunes and an excellent overview of musical
life of his period.

One of the manuscript tune books belonging to Leadley It
contains material that had been popular for some time, as well as
up to the minute sets of quadrilles and polkas, and many very fine
hornpipes
